As light and frothy as the Vivienne Westwood wedding gown that's an unofficial fifth star, the film version of Sex and the City is both captivatingly stylish and sweetly sentimental. Viewers who loved hanging with Carrie Bradshaw and her three pals during the series' TV run will feel as though no time has passed. Except that it has: Carrie and Big are poised to make a Big Commitment; Miranda and Steve are facing the breakup of their wonderful family; Charlotte and Harry have added to their brood; and Samantha (are we sitting down?) has been devoted to hunky Smith for five full years. Still, in all that time, the women's style, conviviality, and appetite for bons mots have only grown. When practical attorney Miranda learns that Carrie is considering moving in with Big (in possibly the coolest apartment in Manhattan), she can't help but frown in that but-you-might-lose-everything way. Carrie's retort: "For once, can't you feel what I want you to feel--jealous?!" The cast is spot-on, as always. Sarah Jessica Parker is effortless as the angst-ridden yet practical, stylish yet vulnerable Carrie. Kim Cattrall is deliciously decadent as Samantha, but she's wiser now and knows herself and her needs for a real relationship. Kristin Davis, as Charlotte, has quietly become the most gorgeous among the beauties, her sleek presence both winsome and sophisticated. And Cynthia Nixon (Miranda) shows nuance as a woman torn between betrayal and grudging hope. Supporting roles include Candice Bergen as the Vogue editor who anoints Carrie "The Last Single Girl in New York," and Jennifer Hudson, as a starry-eyed, ambitious romantic who represents the new generation of SATC women. Through it all, New York is a benevolent cocoon that envelopes and nurtures the women and their friendships and careers. No matter that none of them appears to have any semblance of "real" family; as long as they have each other, and Manhattan, all will be right with their world. --A.T. Hurley

1 out of 5 stars Sex and the City The Movie - Will be Returning   December 28, 2008

I will be returning this product as I received both special features (Disc 2) and no movie disk in the package. I'm thinking that is something that should be looked at before sending an open product to the end user.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic in Every Way.   December 23, 2008

Alright. Now, guys, this is my absolute favorite movie IN THE WORLD. Saw it in theaters twice; went to Wal-Mart the day it came out. The bonus features are, as in all two-disc movies, pretty good, but they could be better.
I'm planning on getting the Wedding Collection edition, but this will have to do for now.
As always, we follow my favorite ladies in all of Manhattan. Mr. Big and Steve are thrown in, of course. Unfortunately, the show was all about SEX. There's barely any of that in this movie; it's all about LOVE.
And I never thought that Sex and the City would have to resort to immature bathroom humor to get more of an important storyline out of the picture. Carrie, whiny as always, has MORE problems with Big; Charlotte doesn't have any real problems in this feature. Miranda, however, has problems with Steve because he cheated on her. Samantha has more shallow and intriguing problems about sex. Of course, I love all of the girls, but Samantha is my favorite, especially in the movie.
Now don't get me wrong, this is an amazing movie with a pretty good storyline and a great guest star (Jennifer Hudson) thrown into the mix. I'm pretty sure the only way it could be better is if it revolved more about the sexual problems the girls were having more than the love problems. All in all, absolutely fantastic.

1 out of 5 stars Shouldn't have been a movie...   December 15, 2008

I've recently gotten into the TV series so I decided to check out the movie, despite poor reviews from my peers. The movie is nowhere near the quality of the show. The way the movie has been written is much different from the show, especially the narration which doesn't have the same creative insights Carrie usually has. On top of this its not that funny, mainly because Samantha doesn't act like a slut in the show (she sleeps with only 1 guy, very unSamantha-like). Everything in the movie was very unoriginal to me and unrealistic so I can't recommend this film at all.

I am a crazy fan of SATC so this movie for me was out of this world. I watched it three times at the movie theaters. The special edition version it's awesome, it shows extra scenes they didn't show at the theaters. The movie takes you through a journey of lessons involving friendships and love. I love it!

1 out of 5 stars unbearable   December 8, 2008

I loved every single episode of the series and really could not watch the movie until the end. it was so boring and disappointing.
i just had the impression that it was made by someone else like the original wit, sense of humor and story lines had disappeared.
the same characters seem like they are missing their original essence and the whole story drags and drags for ever.
what a disaster!
it's the first time i ever write a review about a movie i saw but i just felt i had to share my utmost disappointment and anger with others.
don't bother getting this movie, just buy the series if you don't have it, it is so much better.
Adel
